
On the Kyiv–Chop highway near the village of Vivnia in Stryi district, a fatal road traffic accident occurred in which a pedestrian was killed. The Lviv region police reported the incident.
The crash happened on 11 August at around 02:15. According to preliminary information, the 55-year-old driver of a Volvo lorry, a resident of Zakarpattia region, ran into a pedestrian, a 34-year-old resident of Stryi district.
As a result of the injuries sustained, the pedestrian died at the scene. Paramedics were no longer able to help him.
Investigators from the transport crime investigation department of the Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles. The article provides for a sentence of three to eight years’ imprisonment, with a possible driving ban of up to three years or without such a ban.
Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and carrying out the necessary investigative actions.
