In Stryshchyna, a 21-year-old resident illegally cut down a spruce worth almost a million hryvnias

The suspect faces up to seven years in prison for the crime. Illegally felled trees in the landscape reserve were seized by law enforcement officers and handed over to the forestry department for safekeeping.

As the employees of police department No. 3 of the Stryi district police department established, a 21-year-old resident of one of the villages of the Stryi district illegally cut down spruce trees in a forest massif that belongs to a landscape reserve of local importance and is an object of the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine . Later, the perpetrator sawed the trunks of the trees, transported them to his household and intended to sell them.

The amount of damage caused to the state is more than 900 thousand hryvnias.

Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the intruder of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 4 of Article 246 (Illegal felling or illegal transportation, storage, sale of wood) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of five to seven years.

The police handed the illegally cut trees over to the forestry department for safekeeping.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
