In one of the villages of Stryi district, a 45-year-old local resident is suspected of raping a 13-year-old girl. At the request of the prosecution, the court imposed a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody without the right to bail. This was reported by the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, at the end of June this year, while intoxicated, the man raped the teenager in the yard of a house in Stryi district. From time to time he helped the girl’s mother with household chores; that evening he was cutting the grass in a neighbour’s yard.
When the mother went to the vegetable garden and the 13-year-old girl was left alone in the yard, the man, according to the investigation, committed violent acts against her. To stop the child calling for help, he threatened to tell her classmates about what had happened. The mother unexpectedly returned home, saw what was going on, grabbed a stick and began to beat the neighbour, after which he fled.
The woman contacted law enforcement, and the man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The detainee turned out to be a fellow villager with no previous convictions, who works as a labourer and a security guard at the local school. At the same time, he had repeatedly been held administratively liable for domestic violence against his wife and sister.
Under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, the man has been notified that he is suspected of raping a person under the age of fourteen (Part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Police Station No. 3 of the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
