In the Stryi district, an indictment has been submitted to court against a 33-year-old resident of Novyi Rozdil, who is accused of misappropriating a serviceman’s funds through deception. This was reported by the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, in April this year the woman, who was in a close relationship with a 50-year-old serviceman and often stayed at his home, asked to borrow money from him. The man agreed and allowed her to transfer 17,000 UAH from his bank card via a mobile application, effectively granting her access to his online banking.

Subsequently, knowing the online banking password, over the course of a week the woman, according to the investigation, regularly made transfers from the soldier’s card without his knowledge. She did not transfer the money to her own card, but to her husband’s card, which she in fact used herself. In total, more than 160,000 UAH was unlawfully transferred from the victim’s card.

The money obtained in this way, according to the case file, was spent by the woman on her own needs. She partially laundered the funds by purchasing a television, a laptop and jewellery.

The accused is charged with theft committed under martial law, legalisation of property obtained by criminal means, as well as unauthorised interference with the operation of an information and communication system (Part 4 of Article 185, Part 1 of Article 209, Part 1 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). At the request of the prosecution, her property has been seized. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by Police Station No. 2 of the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.

Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
