The road accident occurred on 7 July at about 19.30 on the Kyiv-Chop motorway near the village of Korostiv.
Law enforcement officers have preliminarily established that the driver of a Renault Kango, a 59-year-old resident of Sambir district, hit a pedestrian, a local resident aged 34, who was crossing the roadway on a pedestrian crossing. As a result of the hit and run, the woman was injured and hospitalised, but despite the efforts of doctors, she died in hospital.
Investigators of Police Department No. 3 of the Stryi District Police Department opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
Pre-trial investigation is underway, law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
