Two people injured in road accident on Kovel–Zhovkva highway in Lviv district

Two people were injured in a road traffic accident on the Kovel–Zhovkva highway near the town of Zhovkva in Lviv district. The incident occurred on 18 June at around 15:00.

According to preliminary police reports, a Renault Trafic driven by a 19-year-old resident of Sheptytskyi district collided with a Renault Espace driven by a 60-year-old resident of Donetsk region.

On impact, the Renault Espace was thrown into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a Renault Magnum lorry driven by a 67-year-old resident of Stryi district.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Renault Espace and his 51-year-old passenger, a resident of Lviv district, sustained bodily injuries. Both were taken to hospital.

Investigators from the transport crime investigation unit of the Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction under this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with a possible driving ban for up to three years or without such a ban. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
