Numerous cases of illegal parking are being recorded on Zaliznychna Street in Lviv, which are damaging the city’s new infrastructure. Despite the installed road signs, some drivers continue to park their cars at an angle, although only parallel parking along the kerb is permitted on this street. This was reported by LKP «Lvivavtodor».
Because of these violations, cars are driving onto the cycle lane, pavements and grassed areas. This creates danger and inconvenience for pedestrians and cyclists, and also destroys the surfacing and green areas laid out during the street’s reconstruction.
«We began recording instances of vandal-style parking from the very first days after this section was opened to traffic. Instead of orderly parking on a modernised, up-to-date street, we see cars left wherever drivers please: on pavements — creating obstacles for pedestrians, including parents with prams, and potentially damaging surfacing that is not designed to bear the weight of vehicles; on the cycle lane — blocking cyclists’ movement; on grassed areas — leaving ruts and destroying green spaces», LKP «Lvivavtodor» notes.
The company stresses that on the section of Zaliznychna Street from Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street, only parallel parking along the kerb is allowed. This is clearly indicated by road signs. Vehicles parked in violation of the rules are subject to towing.
«Lvivavtodor» calls on drivers to treat the renewed public space with care, respect other road users and strictly observe parking regulations.
As a reminder, on 2 July the first section of the reconstructed Zaliznychna Street — from Shevchenka Street to Yasna Street — was opened to traffic. Two-way traffic, cycling infrastructure and step-free pavements have been provided here, creating comfortable conditions for all road users.
Meanwhile, repair works continue on the section from Yasna Street to Sharanovycha Street. They have been divided into two parts. On the section from Yasna Street to Storozhenka Street, the contractor Onur is completing the replacement of utility networks and has begun laying the base for the road surface. On the stretch from Storozhenka Street to Sharanovycha Street, the old carriageway has been dismantled and replacement of the water main has started.
