At the weekend, seven people were poisoned by carbon monoxide in Lviv

On October 21-22, three cases of carbon monoxide poisoning occurred in Lviv, as a result of which seven people were injured. The City Hall of Lviv once again calls on the citizens to be careful and observe the safety rules for using gas and stove heating.

In particular, on October 21 in the apartment on the street General Grekov, 8 five people were poisoned by carbon monoxide, two of them children. Also in the apartment on the street Shevchenko, 24, one person was poisoned by carbon monoxide. And on October 22, a person was poisoned by carbon monoxide in an apartment on Ave. Svobody, 1. All victims in a state of moderate severity were sent to medical institutions: adults – to the regional clinical hospital, children – to the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital.

In total, since the beginning of the year, 31 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning were recorded in the city, as a result of which 62 people were injured, 19 of them were children. Unfortunately, one person died. The causes of these poisonings were non-observance of the rules for using gas appliances in the home, violation of draft through sealed windows and electric hoods.

Experts once again emphasize that the main requirement to avoid trouble is the flow of fresh air into the room where there are heating devices – through the window, door and ventilation channel, which must be constantly cleaned, and in which there must be an appropriate draft so that the exhaust gases are released into the atmosphere . Where devices are installed with a flue outlet of combustion products into the chimney – i.e. gas cats or columns, this chimney must also be clean. And in no case can there be electric fans in such rooms. If one of these rules is not followed, then carbon monoxide begins to form in the room, and trouble occurs.

REMEMBER!

Gas is explosive, and the slightest violation of the rules can lead to tragedy – explosion, fire, poisoning and destruction. During all accidents related to the use of gas (explosion, fire, poisoning), you should call one of the city services: ambulance – 103, fire department – 101, gas department – 104, police – 102. Any of these services will notify the rest, and they will arrive at the scene.
