A 37-year-old resident of Yavoriv district, who is a deputy of the village council and director of a utility company, was exposed by the investigators of the especially serious crimes investigation department of the police investigation department of the Lviv region together with operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office.
As the law enforcement officers established, the perpetrator, using his official position, demanded and received an illegal benefit in the amount of 38 thousand hryvnias from a local resident for carrying out work on the development of his land plot.
On August 19, law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving part of the amount of illegal benefits.
The detainee was informed of the suspicion of committing a crime provided for in Part 3 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect – detention with the possibility of posting bail. The issue of removing him from his position is also being resolved.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
