Man detained in Yavoriv district after opening fire on Lexus car

In Yavoriv district, law enforcement officers have detained a 32-year-old resident suspected of opening fire on a Lexus car and wounding its driver. This was reported by law enforcement agencies.

According to the police, on 6 July at around 19:10, a 44-year-old resident of one of the villages in Yavoriv district filed a report stating that his fellow villager had fired several shots at him from an automatic weapon resembling a Kalashnikov assault rifle. The bullets struck the windscreen of the Lexus, as a result of which the driver was injured.

Special forces officers, criminal investigation operatives, forensic experts and officers from other police units in Lviv region, as well as staff of the Yavoriv district police department, were involved in locating and detaining the suspect. The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The weapon from which, according to the investigation, the shots were fired has been seized and sent for expert examination. Under the procedural guidance of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office, the detainee has been notified that he is suspected of committing a criminal offence under Part 2 of Article 15 – Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted premeditated murder). A decision is also being made on whether to notify him that he is suspected under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).

The maximum penalty the suspect faces is up to fifteen years’ imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are establishing the origin of the weapon.
