In one of the villages of the Yavoriv district, the body of a man showing signs of a violent death was found in a roadside ditch near a lake. In connection with this, police detained a 33-year-old local resident suspected of the deliberate killing of a man from a neighbouring village.
According to preliminary findings by law enforcement officers, the incident took place on 19 July at around 00:30 near a village shop. During a sudden conflict, a 33-year-old local resident inflicted multiple blows with his hands and a knife to the head and neck of a 51-year-old man from a neighbouring village, causing his death.
After this, according to the investigation, the perpetrator dragged the body to a roadside ditch, placed a bicycle on it and fled the scene. The following day, 20 July, the victim’s body was discovered in the ditch near the lake.
A response and investigation team and officers from other units of the Yavoriv District Police Department, as well as forensic specialists of the Lviv Region Police, worked at the scene. Through investigative measures, law enforcement officers established the whereabouts of the suspect and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators have notified the detainee that he is suspected of committing a criminal offence under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (deliberate murder). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of seven to fifteen years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, under the procedural supervision of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office.
