The accident occurred on March 24, at about 13:45, on the Kyiv-Chop highway in the village of Khvativ, Zolochiv district.
As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Renault Magnum, a 61-year-old resident of Zakarpattia region, drove into oncoming traffic and collided with an Opel Vivaro driven by a 37-year-old resident of Rivne region.
The driver of the Opel Vivaro died on the spot as a result of the accident, and his minor passenger, an eight-year-old boy from Rivne region, was injured and hospitalized.
The driver of the Renault Magnum was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.
Investigators of the Department for Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Transport of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
