Near the village of Nem’yach in Zolochiv district, a 59-year-old local resident, according to the investigation, seriously injured a 22-year-old woman who works as an agronomist. This was reported under the procedural supervision of the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident occurred in the morning on common grazing land outside the village, which belongs to an agricultural company. The victim, together with a tractor driver, was inspecting the plot, preparing it for clearing of trees and shrubs. A man who lives nearby and constantly grazes livestock on this land approached the woman, and an argument broke out between them.
According to the investigation, during the conflict the man became aggressive and struck the woman twice on the head with a hammer he had brought with him. When she fell to the ground, the attacker continued to hit her.
The tractor driver, who was nearby, heard the screams. He pulled the man away from the victim and called the police and medics. The attacker went home, where he was later detained by law enforcement officers under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The victim, who has an open traumatic brain injury and a skull fracture, is in intensive care. The detainee has been notified that he is suspected of a completed attempted premeditated murder under Part 2 of Article 15, Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Police Department No. 1 of the Zolochiv District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
