Police identify offender involved in damaging graves of defenders at Lychakiv cemetery
Police have identified the woman involved in the desecration of the graves of the defenders at Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. It is a 48-year-old woman from Lviv. She faces up to five years in prison for her actions. This was reported by the communications department of the Lviv regional police.
On the morning of 20 October, during the inspection of the territory, employees of the Lychakiv Cemetery discovered the fact of desecration of graves on the field of honorary burials No. 76. As the guards found out, a total of 39 graves were damaged. In particular, flowers, wreaths and lamps were scattered there.
“As a result of the measures taken, having studied the video surveillance footage, the police found that a resident of Lviv, aged 48, was involved in the desecration of the graves of the Heroes.
The issue of serving her a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 297 (Desecration of a grave, other burial place or the body of the deceased) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being decided under the procedural supervision of the Galician Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of restriction of liberty for a term of three to five years or imprisonment for the same term,” the Lviv regional police communication department said.
To prevent such incidents, the city will intensify patrolling of the burial site of our defenders at Lychakiv Cemetery.
