Underage Motorcyclist and Passenger Injured in Lviv Region

A road traffic accident involving minors occurred in the Lviv region.

Lviv region police remind that the minimum age for taking driving tests and obtaining a driver’s license is 16 years. This applies to categories A and A1, which give the right to drive mopeds and motorcycles. “Once again, we appeal to parents: motor transport is not a toy! Before buying it for children, you should consider the consequences,” law enforcement officials state.

The accident happened on June 22 at 8:45 PM on Heroiv Ukrainy Street in the village of Hiyche, Lviv district. As preliminarily established by law enforcement, the 15-year-old driver lost control of the Viper motorcycle, went off the road, and into a ditch. As a result, the motorcyclist and her passenger, also a 15-year-old resident of the district, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Following the incident, investigators from police department No. 2 of the Lviv district police department No. 1 opened a criminal proceeding under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Violation of road traffic safety rules.” The maximum penalty under this article provides for a restraint of liberty for up to three years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years. Police are establishing the circumstances of the event.
