Drunk Driver from Sambir District Fatally Hit a 76-Year-Old Pedestrian on Horodotska Street in Lviv

An indictment has been sent to court against a 33-year-old resident of the Sambir district, who, while under the influence of alcohol, caused a fatal traffic accident in the Lviv region.

According to the investigation, the incident occurred in the evening at the beginning of October 2025. The driver of a SEAT Leon was traveling through the village of Kholodnovidka toward Lviv while intoxicated. Despite having a fully functioning vehicle and sufficient visibility to detect obstacles, the driver hit a pedestrian.

The victim, a 76-year-old man from Lviv, was attempting to cross the road outside of a designated pedestrian crossing, stepping onto the roadway from a safety island. He died at the scene from his injuries.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. However, law enforcement officers managed to locate and detain him within a few hours in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A medical test revealed his blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit by more than five times.

The man has been charged with:

  • Leaving a person in danger (Part 1, Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
  • Violating traffic rules while intoxicated, resulting in death (Part 3, Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv Region.
