Illegal logging of about UAH 200 thousand – four members of organised group served suspicion notices
Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, four members of an organised group were served a notice of suspicion of illegal logging, transportation and sale of felled trees, as well as embezzlement of property by abuse of office (Part 2 Article 246, Part 5 Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, one of the suspects, while holding the position of a forester, organised a criminal group together with a local businessman. The group included two other forest masters subordinate to the forester.
Between December 2023 and February 2024, they illegally cut down trees in the forests of one of the structural units of the state enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”.
The felled wood was subsequently sold. The entrepreneur transferred the proceeds to the forester, who, in turn, divided them among the group members.
As a result of the illegal felling of trees, the environment was damaged in the amount of about UAH 200 thousand.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv, with operational support provided by the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv Region of the State Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
