In Lviv, an indictment has been submitted to court against a 26-year-old man and his 20-year-old cohabiting partner from the Drohobych area, who are accused of selling narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. This was reported by the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.
According to the investigation, in August this year the couple purchased drugs and psychotropic substances in bulk via Telegram for subsequent sale. The prosecution alleges that they sold them by placing so-called “dead drops” around Lviv, as well as sending parcels by post across Ukraine. To organise this illegal distribution, they rented a flat in the Lychakivskyi district of the city.
Law enforcement officers documented two episodes of sale in a single day. Near the rented accommodation, the couple left a “dead drop” containing “spice” under a tree, packed in 12 plastic containers hidden inside a cardboard juice carton. That same evening, according to the investigation, the pair attempted to send “spice” via a parcel locker, concealing the psychotropic substance in a washing-up sponge, but they were detained by police under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
During a search at the defendants’ place of residence, officers found and seized 5 grams of amphetamine, 7 grams of mephedrone, ecstasy tablets, mushrooms containing psilocin, the psychotropic substance “spice” and cannabis. The pre-trial investigation in the case was conducted by Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
The man and woman are charged with the unlawful acquisition and possession with intent to supply and unlawful supply of narcotic drugs and particularly dangerous psychotropic substances in especially large quantities, committed repeatedly, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons (Parts 2 and 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
