A resident of Drohobych will be tried for obstructing professional activity and threatening to kill

Prosecutors of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office have sent an indictment against a 45-year-old resident of Drohobych to court. He is charged with obstructing legitimate professional activity and threatening a journalist (Part 2 of Article 171, Part 1 of Article 345-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the accused threatened violence and murder against one of the journalists of the publication “Choice – Human Rights Defender of Lviv Region”. The man intimidated him, demanding that he stop collecting information about his brother, a patrol police officer.

As part of his professional duties, the journalist was performing an editorial task: collecting information on police officers’ compliance with current legislation while patrolling a road in the Drohobych district.

The accused began to intimidate the journalist, verbally threatening him with beatings and murder.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Lviv Department of Internal Affairs No. 3 of the Lviv District Police No. 2 of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region and the Central Department of the National Police in Lviv region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
