Lviv region to try a group of criminals who seized almost two million hryvnias of budget funds
According to law enforcement officers, the defendants fraudulently and through forgery seized funds from the Stryi City Council during the overhaul of the Sokil stadium.
The criminals were exposed by investigators of the Stryi District Police Department jointly with operatives of the SBU Office in Lviv region, under the supervision of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.
Thus, in 2021, the Stryi City Council and a construction company entered into a contract for the overhaul of the Sokil Stadium in Stryi to carry out the overhaul. Subsequently, the contractor, represented by the company’s director and chief engineer, entered deliberately false information in the acts of work performed, overstating the amount of work actually performed.
On the basis of these documents, funds were transferred from the budget of Stryi City Council to the contractor’s account, thus causing the local community to suffer losses in the amount of almost UAH 2 million.
The organizer of the criminal group, as well as the scheme of misappropriation of budget funds, was one of the initiators of the contractor company, a 49-year-old businessman from Dnipropetrovs’k.
The members of the criminal group – the organizer, the head and the chief engineer of the contractor company – were served a notice of suspicion of committing criminal offenses stipulated by Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Part 3 of Art. 28 – Part 1 of Art. 366 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings has been completed, and the indictment has been submitted to the court.
The maximum penalty facing the accused is imprisonment for up to twelve years with confiscation of property.
