Starosta from Stryi district will be imprisoned for beating a pensioner

Head of Stryi village council sentenced to real term for beating pensioner for grazing cow near school

Due to the principled position of the prosecutors of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, a 66-year-old man was found guilty of inflicting moderate bodily harm that caused long-term health disorder (Part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The court sentenced him to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

Previously, the district court acquitted the defendant. However, prosecutors disagreed with this position and filed an appeal, which resulted in the case being set for a new trial. During the new trial, prosecutors proved the guilt of the crime.

It was established that in August 2021, the head of a village council in Stryi district beat a 76-year-old local resident.

On that day, a conflict arose between the man and the pensioner over her grazing a cow near the school. During the conflict, the man snatched a wooden stick from the woman’s hands, which she uses to support herself while walking, and began beating her with it. During numerous blows to the victim’s body, the stick broke. However, the accused did not stop there, but continued to beat the old woman with the other part of the baton that remained in his hands.

As a result, the pensioner sustained moderate bodily injuries. In particular, multiple hematomas all over the body, a fracture of the radius, fingers and other injuries.
