Double Murder in Pustomyty: Suspect in Intensive Care

In Pustomyty, a double murder occurred, with the 33-year-old grandson of the deceased being the suspect. According to the investigation, neighbours informed a 36-year-old relative that they had not seen the couple for several days. Upon arriving at the house, the man discovered the body of a 79-year-old relative on the second floor with signs of a violent death and immediately notified the authorities.

During the inspection, the body of the deceased’s 78-year-old wife was also found in the house. It was preliminarily established that the couple died as a result of multiple stab wounds. The grandson, who lived with them, is implicated in the crime. Subsequently, he attempted to commit suicide by inflicting cuts on his arms and neck, and later jumped from the third floor.

The man has been hospitalised in the intensive care unit. Under the procedural guidance of the Pustomyty District Prosecutor’s Office, he has been charged with the intentional murder of two persons (para. 1 part 2 art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Police Department No. 3 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court’s guilty verdict.
