The police of the Lviv region warn about “pickpocket” thieves

The police of the Lviv region emphasize that in order to protect your property, you need to follow simple rules that will significantly complicate the “work” of thieves.

– do not carry valuables, documents and keys in the outer pockets of clothes, bags and backpacks – it is better to use inner pockets, waist bags;

– make sure that the wallet does not stand out on the clothes and does not attract attention;

– make sure your bag is closed and keep it in sight;

– pay special attention to people who try to approach you closely, stand up behind or from the side;

– do not count money in your wallet in front of people.

If you do become a victim of a “pickpocket” thief, report it to the hotline “102”.

At the same time, it is worth:

– remember the signs of the intruder: what he was wearing, approximate height, age, build;

– where did the intruder run;

– describe the stolen property;

– block credit cards;

– wait at the place of the police officers.

On January 23, around 7:00 p.m., operatives of the criminal investigation police of the Lviv Oblast, while working out the area on Horodotskyi Street in Lviv, noticed how an unknown man ran out of a minibus taxi, holding a wallet in his hands, and began to run away.

Law enforcement officers caught up with the fugitive and established his identity. It was also established that a 46-year-old man from Lviv was involved in the theft of a wallet from a 75-year-old minibus passenger.

The investigative and operative group and other employees of the territorial police unit worked at the scene. The perpetrator was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, physical evidence was seized from him.

According to the fact, investigators of police department #1 of Lviv district police department #, under the procedural guidance of the Galicia district prosecutor’s office, opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the article is up to eight years of imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
