In order to commit the theft, the perpetrator got a job in the department for an internship as a porter, and later, together with an accomplice, they took possession of funds in the amount of 380,000 hryvnias. The suspect faces up to eight years in prison for the crime.
Detectives of the criminal police and investigators of police department No. 3 of the Stryi district police department, as well as operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of Lviv Oblast were involved in solving the crime.
As the law enforcement officers established, on July 28, around 10:00 p.m. in the village of Slavske, Stryi district, unknown criminals broke into the premises of one of the local post offices, unlocked the door to the storage room, seized money in the amount of 380,000 hryvnias and a bank card, and then fled.
It is characteristic that the thieves used the keys to the entrance doors to the premises and to the storage room to commit the theft.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that two men aged 19 and 25, who temporarily live in the Lviv region, were involved in the commission of a criminal offense. The youngest of them recently got a job in the department for an internship as a porter and received the keys to the office premises on the eve of the theft. The older one was wanted for theft and robbery committed in the Kyiv region.
Through the conducted measures, the police established the whereabouts of the perpetrators who were hiding in the Kyiv region and detained them in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators of the territorial unit of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, informed them of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the article is up to eight years of imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, soon the court will choose preventive measures for the perpetrators.
