Law enforcement officers seized the stolen vehicle and will return it to its owner. The detainee faces up to twelve years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
According to the police, the Toyota Prius was stolen on 5 September at around 10.30pm on Stryiska Street in Lviv. The offender took advantage of the fact that the owner was away for a short time, leaving the vehicle with the engine running. He got into the car and drove off in an unknown direction.
Officers of the Police Department No. 2 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department and officers of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Police, as well as patrol police officers were involved in the search for the car.
Law enforcement officers conducted a series of operational and investigative measures, studied the footage from the video surveillance cameras of the Safe Lviv Region system and found the stolen car near the Arena Lviv stadium.
The police also identified the offender, a 35-year-old resident of Lviv, and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office, served him a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 3 of Article 289 (Illegal seizure of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years with or without confiscation of property.
