The traffic accident happened today, May 22, around 6:30 a.m. on the Lviv-Lutsk highway near the village of Novy Stav, Lviv district.
As previously determined by the law enforcement officers, the driver of the Mazda 6 car, a 23-year-old resident of the Lviv district, failed to control the vehicle – the vehicle went off the road and overturned.
As a result of the accident, the passenger of the car, also a 23-year-old resident of the Lviv district, died at the scene from his injuries.
It was also established that the driver was driving the vehicle while intoxicated – law enforcement officers detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
According to the fact of investigation, the department of investigation of crimes in the field of transport opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 (Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of five to ten years.
As a result of the accident, the Mazda driver was injured – soon the court will choose a preventive measure for him.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted, law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
