The police arrested criminals suspected of stealing money and documents from a car in the Lviv Region

A 60-year-old resident of Kharkiv, who was previously held criminally liable for theft, and a 46-year-old resident of Drohobych face up to eight years in prison for the crime.

On October 30, a resident of the village of Banyunyn, Lviv district, contacted hotline 102. The man reported that around 4:15 p.m., a purse with money in the amount of more than 100,000 hryvnias and documents was stolen from his Volkswagen Caddy car, which he left on the street. According to the applicant, he went away for a short time, leaving his purse on the car seat.

Detectives of the criminal police of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, criminal police operatives and investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, criminal police operatives of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, as well as employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of the Lviv Oblast were involved in solving the crime.

The police carried out a complex of operational and search measures, during which, with the help of video surveillance cameras located within the framework of the “Safe Lviv Region” program, they established that the criminals who committed the theft used a VAZ-2109 car.

Later, the law enforcement officers discovered the whereabouts of the perpetrators and on October 31, with the help of the capital’s patrol police officers, detained them in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in the city of Boryspil, Kyiv region.

The identities of the detainees have been established – they turned out to be a 60-year-old resident of Kharkiv, who was previously prosecuted for theft, and a 46-year-old resident of Drohobych. Physical evidence was taken from them.

Soon, the investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, under the procedural guidance of the Zhovkiv District Prosecutor’s Office, will notify the perpetrators of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the article is up to eight years of imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose precautionary measures for the suspects.
