
Police Apprehend Theft Suspect in Pustomyty
A community police officer identified a suspect in a burglary in the town of Pustomyty even before the crime was reported.
Suspect Detection
While on duty, Senior Community Police Officer of Police Department No. 3, Lviv District Police Department No. 2, Captain Yuriy Zubrytskyi noticed a passerby behaving suspiciously. Upon seeing the officer, the man quickened his pace and tried to hide something under his jacket. During a superficial check, the officer found a laptop and other items, which the 21-year-old resident of Pustomyty city could not explain the origin of.
Investigation and Suspicion
An investigative-operational team from the local police unit worked at the scene. Law enforcement determined that the suspect had entered a private house on Shukhevych Street, taking a laptop and other property. The police identified the homeowner and contacted her immediately. It turned out that the 68-year-old woman was unaware of the theft.
Investigators from the local police unit, under the procedural guidance of the Pustomyty District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the suspect of the suspicion regarding the crime defined by Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to eight years. The pre-trial investigation continues.
