Police Investigate Dog Killing by Neighbor in Stryi District

Police are investigating a case of animal cruelty in the Stryi district.

On August 19, around 08:00, a 70-year-old resident of one of the villages in the Stryi district turned to the police with a report about the killing of her dog. Investigators, criminal police operatives, and forensic specialists from the Stryi District Police Department worked at the scene.

As law enforcement officers established, the dog ran into the neighbor’s yard, after which the 72-year-old homeowner shot it with a gun. The authorities seized the weapon, and the dog’s body was sent for examination.

Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, opened criminal proceedings under part 1 of article 299 “Cruelty to animals” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides punishment – restraint of liberty for a term from one to three years or imprisonment for a term from two to three years with confiscation of the animal. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
