Truskavets Police Detain Suspect in Robbery

In Truskavets, police detained a man suspected of robbing a woman in a park.

Law enforcement officials remind that during martial law, maximum penalties are provided for theft, robbery, assault, extortion, as well as for misappropriation, embezzlement of property, or acquiring it through abuse of office.

As established by the police, on May 23 at 17:10 in the Park of Culture and Recreation of Truskavets, an unknown man snatched a handbag from a 69-year-old local resident, which contained a mobile phone and a significant amount of cash in various currencies, and then fled.

To uncover the crime, operatives of the criminal police, investigators, and employees of other services of the police department No.2 of the Drohobych district police department, as well as employees of the criminal analysis department of the Lviv police were involved. Law enforcement conducted a set of operational-search measures, studied the recordings of video surveillance cameras of the ‘Safe Lviv Region’ system, established the whereabouts of the offender, and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The detainee was identified as a 40-year-old resident of Truskavets. Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural guidance of the Drohobych district prosecutor’s office, informed him of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in part 4 of Article 186 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years.

Pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect – custody – is being decided.
