On December 23, 2024, around midnight, an explosion occurred in the yard of a household in Rudky, Sambir district. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the grenade fragments damaged the house and a car parked in the yard.
Incident Details
Police quickly arrived at the scene, including an investigative team, officers from the Sambir District Police Department, and bomb disposal experts from the Lviv region. Investigators determined that the suspect threw a grenade, likely an F-1 type, into the yard before fleeing.
Investigation Progress
Through swift action, law enforcement identified the perpetrator as a 30-year-old local resident. The suspect allegedly acted out of revenge against the property owner due to a personal conflict. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The suspect has been charged under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Intentional destruction or damage to property”), which carries a penalty of three to ten years of imprisonment.
Additionally, forensic examinations have been initiated. Depending on the results, charges under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives”) may also be filed. This could result in an additional sentence of three to seven years in prison.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, with police working to uncover all details of the incident and trace the origin of the grenade.
