A colonel in the Lviv region has been arrested for extorting bribes from subordinates. The head of a separate air defence brigade had organised a scheme of enrichment, demanding a monthly 50,000 hryvnias for the allocation of additional ‘combat’ payments.
If refused payment of the bribe, he threatened not to sign documents for payments or to redeploy military personnel to dangerous areas. The offender was exposed and detained by investigators from the Lviv Regional Police Department in collaboration with the SBU, upon receiving 50,000 hryvnias.
He has been charged under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for imprisonment from five to ten years and confiscation of property. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
