Operational officers of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment jointly with law enforcement officers exposed a resident of Lviv region who organised the illegal transfer of men liable for military service abroad bypassing checkpoints.
According to law enforcement, the 28-year-old man agreed to organise an illegal transfer for a man of military age who intended to evade mobilisation in exchange for a monetary reward. The “businessman” estimated his services at USD 10,000. To implement his plan, the offender had to deliver his “client” by car to the territory of Zakarpattia region and instruct him on further movement along the route.
In the course of the joint operation, the trafficker was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine after receiving the money tranche.
The investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 3 Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment jointly with the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region of the National Police Department of Strategic Investigations under the supervision of the Lviv Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office in the Western Region.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are establishing the circle of people involved in the illegal scheme.
