
Border guards uncovered the organizer of an illegal transport of individuals across the state border outside established checkpoints.
According to the investigation, a 32-year-old resident of Uzhgorod promised clients an illegal crossing in the Zakarpattia region for 10,000 US dollars. The “service package” included a meeting, transfer, hotel accommodation, and further route instructions. The perpetrator was caught red-handed in Uzhgorod while receiving the full amount.
The operative team of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, together with investigators from the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, operatives from the Migration Police Department in Lviv region, and officers from the military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered the case. The procedural supervision is conducted by the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Western region.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion under part 3 of article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine). The article’s sanction provides for 7-9 years of imprisonment with the possibility of property confiscation and a ban on holding certain positions.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
