Over the past day, in the Lviv region, there has been ongoing combat against ecosystem fires, with firefighters extinguishing 5 blazes covering a total area of over 450 sq.m. Notably, firefighters are tackling a peat fire in the village of Sytykhiv in the Lviv district.
Peat fires pose particular challenges in firefighting as the flames can spread underground and smoulder for weeks. Extinguishing such fires requires considerable effort, a large amount of water, and constant monitoring. Rescuers thoroughly soak smouldering areas to prevent rekindling.
The danger of such fires also lies in the potential for the fire to spread to dry vegetation, shelterbelts, or areas near residential buildings. Additionally, prolonged smouldering is accompanied by heavy smoke, which pollutes the air. Rescuers urge residents not to burn dry grass and rubbish and to strictly adhere to fire safety rules.
