In Kam’yan-Kashyrsky, Lviv region, rescue workers collected hazardous mercury discovered in the afternoon in the attic above a garage. The State Emergency Service received a report about the issue and responded promptly.
At the scene, rescuers determined that the source of danger was a damaged device, specifically an ignitron, which caused mercury spillage over an area of 0.5 sq.m. Using special mechanical tools, the team gathered the mercury and conducted demercurisation work to fully eliminate the contamination.
Approximately 6.6 kg of hazardous materials were removed, including a mixture of mercury with soil and over 3 kg of the pure metal itself. The collected materials were handed over to the local civil protection representative for storage and subsequent disposal.
