River Zubra in Lviv Inspected Following Reports of Dye

In Lviv, representatives of the “Lviv Vodokanal” and Sykhiv District Administration inspected the River Zubra, which flows through Ivan Pavlo II Park. The inspection was prompted by bright green water captured in social media photos. The examinations were conducted on the day the information emerged and on the morning of 27 April, but no signs of abnormal colouring were found.

The city administrations suggest that this could have been a dye used to detect leaks in water supply systems, which is environmentally safe. The Department of Ecology notes that dye can be used for network tests. Green dye was chosen deliberately as it is the safest for aquatic ecosystems.

The city council also noted that such water testing is safe and widely used in many countries around the world. For example, in cities in the United States, including the well-known case in Chicago during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
