An indictment has been submitted to court against a 31-year-old resident of Sambir, who is accused of unlawfully acquiring and attempting to export counterfeit tobacco products abroad. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, the man purchased 770 packs of illegally manufactured cigarettes without excise tax stamps at the “Krakivskyi Market” in Lviv. He placed the tobacco products in a lorry and semi-trailer and transported them to the Krakivets – Korczowa border crossing on the border with Poland.
Investigators believe that the accused intended to unlawfully take these cigarettes out of Ukraine and sell them in Poland. At the end of July this year, during customs control, customs officers discovered and seized the counterfeit goods.
The man’s actions have been classified under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as the unlawful acquisition for the purpose of sale and transportation for that purpose of illegally manufactured tobacco products. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv Region on the basis of materials from Lviv Customs.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
