In Lviv Oblast, law enforcement officers exposed the deputy commander of a military unit who forced his subordinates to build their own house. Investigators found seven soldiers at the construction site during office hours.

In addition, his wife opened an underground store on the territory of the military town, where she sold food that was allocated free of charge by the Ministry of Defense.

As the prosecutor’s office reported on August 24, the lieutenant colonel and deputy commander of a military unit in the Lviv region involved his subordinates in the construction of his own private house in the Yavoriv district of the Lviv region. In particular, seven soldiers worked at the facility during duty hours.

“Since mid-July of this year, soldiers, instead of fulfilling their duties for the defense and protection of Ukraine, have been working at the private facility of the “commander”. He involved 7 servicemen in the repair and construction work on his two-story villa,” the SBI reported.

The official also set up an underground store run by his wife on the territory of the military town. There, military personnel were sold food, which was officially allocated by the state free of charge to provide for the military.

During the searches, investigators found construction equipment, documentation and draft records confirming the illegal activities of the military, mobile phones, as well as 14,600 US dollars and 1,300 euros in cash.

The law enforcement officers detained the lieutenant colonel and informed him of the suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 426-1 (exceeding power or authority by a military official) of the Civil Code. The court chose a preventive measure for him – detention with the possibility of paying more than UAH 260,000 as bail. In addition, he was suspended from his post for 2 months. For what he committed, he faces from 8 to 12 years of imprisonment.
