Land Fraud Near Lviv: Two Individuals to Be Tried

Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have sent an indictment to court against two men for the illegal appropriation of a land plot.

Investigation established that in February 2024, a Lviv resident executed a scheme to fraudulently take possession of a communal land plot. This involved an agricultural land plot of 0.5 hectares in the village of Yampil, Lviv district. To carry out the plan, the man engaged a land surveyor engineer who prepared false land management technical documentation.

As a result, the form of the plot, already owned by the Lviv resident, was unjustifiably altered, and its location was ‘moved’ 2.5 km from the actual site. Subsequently, this land was combined with two other plots owned by the Lviv resident, forming a new entity of over 2 hectares under a different cadastral number.

Later, the owner sold the newly created plot, thus legalizing assets obtained through criminal means. The material damage caused to the Murovanska village council by the unlawful actions of the accused amounts to over 3 million UAH.

The Lviv resident is charged with fraud and legalization of assets obtained through criminal means (part 5, article 190, part 1, article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and the land surveyor – aiding and abetting fraud (part 5, article 27, part 5, article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Pre-trial investigation – Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region, operational support – State Investigation Service in Lviv Region of the National Police of Ukraine.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a criminal offense and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until proven guilty in accordance with the law and established by a court conviction.
