Death of Two Children in Lviv: Official Comments

In Lviv, at the communal medical institution ‘Center for Children’s Health and Rehabilitation’, two children under palliative care died on September 22nd.

During a briefing, the Director of the Health Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Nataliia Litvinska, noted that the information about the death of ‘healthy children’ is not accurate. ‘We are deeply troubled by this situation, and we care about the life and health of every child. But these children were seriously ill, palliative subgroup A. The institution acted in accordance with the current legislation’, emphasized Nataliia Litvinska.

The girl was referred for a pathological examination, and the boy for a forensic medical examination due to criminal proceedings regarding his mother. ‘We are waiting for the court’s decision regarding the boy to start the forensic medical examination. We cannot disclose the girl’s diagnosis, the cause of death was the underlying disease’, added Nataliia Litvinska.

Chief of the Children’s Interests Protection Department Yurii Matlakh stated that the boy suffered abuse from his mother in 2024. ‘Due to the intentional actions of the mother, irreparable harm and consequences were inflicted on the child. Specialists did not offer positive forecasts, and unfortunately, the child died on September 22nd’, said the prosecutor.

Regarding the girl, she was born with multiple defects, and her parents abandoned her in the maternity ward. ‘Doctors and specialists did not foresee positive changes in the child’s health. As a result, at the age of 4, the child passed away’, added Yurii Matlakh.

Deputy Head of the Police Department Oleksandr Dembovskyi reported that medical documentation has been seized, appropriate examinations have been appointed, and results will be announced after the inspections are completed.
