A tragic car accident occurred on January 5 at around 3:40 PM on the “Western Bypass of Lviv” road near the village of Sokilnyky in the Lviv district.
Preliminary police reports indicate that a collision took place between two vehicles: a Renault Megane, driven by a 35-year-old Lviv resident, and a Volkswagen Passat, operated by a 24-year-old resident of Lviv.
As a result of the crash, both drivers and a 60-year-old passenger of the Renault Megane sustained injuries and were hospitalized. Unfortunately, the passenger succumbed to his injuries in the hospital despite medical efforts.
Investigators from the Lviv region’s traffic crimes unit have launched a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Violation of Traffic Safety Rules”). The penalty includes imprisonment for 3 to 8 years, with an additional potential ban on driving for up to three years.
Police are working to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
