Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office sent to court an indictment against a resident of the Sambir district. He is charged with violation of the rules of road safety and operation of a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving a person in a life-threatening condition without assistance (Part 3 of Article 286-1, Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The road accident occurred on 21 February 2023 near the village of Morozovychi, Sambir district.
The investigation established that the accused was driving a VAZ 2101 under the influence of alcohol, the braking system of which was in a faulty condition. Subsequently, the man, failing to choose a safe speed taking into account the technical condition of the vehicle, did not give way to a Volkswagen Transporter. As a result, he drove to an unregulated intersection with the main road, where he collided with the above-mentioned car.
After the accident, the defendant fled the scene, leaving the man without help.
The victim, who suffered serious injuries and was in a helpless state, died at the scene of the accident.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv Region.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
