In the Lviv region, a driver was sentenced for fatally hitting a pedestrian while intoxicated

A 51-year-old resident of Kherson was convicted of a public accusation by the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office of the Lviv Region. He was found guilty of violating road safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused the death of a person (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to 6 years in prison. He is also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 6 years.

The investigation established that on June 14, 2023, around 12:00 p.m. in Yavoriv region, the accused was driving his car in a state of alcohol intoxication.

Driving on one of the streets of the village of Zaluzzhya in the direction of the highway “Rava-Ruska – Yavoriv – Sudova Vyshnya”, a man lost control and ran into a local woman. A woman was waiting for a bus on the roadside.

The victim died of her injuries in the hospital a few days later.

The accused will be in custody until the verdict becomes final.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the investigators of the Yavoriv Regional Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region.

There is currently an appeal period for the decision.
