Murder Case of Andriy Parubiy in Lviv Referred to Court

Prosecutors from the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have referred to court an indictment against a Lviv resident accused of murdering the Ukrainian MP and former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy. The politician was killed on 30 August 2025 in Lviv near his home. The attacker, disguised as a courier, approached Parubiy on Yefremova Street and shot him 8 times. The politician died on the spot.

After the murder, the criminal fled on an electric bicycle, attempting to hide in another region. Operation “Siren” helped apprehend him in the Khmelnytskyi region on the night of 1 September. The detainee turned out to be a 53-year-old resident of Lviv. The investigation established that in the summer of 2024, the accused began collaborating with Russian special services, offering his services to harm Ukraine.

The Lviv resident gathered intelligence on the Armed Forces of Ukraine and passed it to his handler. Due to personal animosity towards officials, blaming them for the start of the war and the disappearance of his son, he agreed to murder Parubiy. The preparation included surveillance of the victim and the acquisition of a weapon.

After the murder, he attempted to destroy evidence, but law enforcement found the pistol in a forest. The weapon was wrapped in a plastic bag. The accused is charged with state treason, public calls for violent change of power, and other crimes.

He has been remanded in custody without the right to bail. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU Office in the Lviv region.
