Shooting in a Cafe in Lviv Region: Suspect Detained

In the Lviv region, police detained a man who opened fire during a conflict in a cafe.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, only the entrance door was damaged. The event took place on January 30 at around 17:00 in a cafe located in the town of Novyi Rozdil in Stryi district. Law enforcement officers established that one of the visitors, being intoxicated, caused a conflict during which he behaved inadequately and used foul language. As he did not respond to calls to stop his hooligan actions, a waiter and the cafe owner escorted the man outside.

The visitor tried to forcibly open the entrance door and return to the premises, but failed – then he fired several shots from an object resembling a Flobert revolver, damaging the door. One of the cafe employees sought help from the police.

The crime was solved by operatives of the criminal police, investigators, and officers from other services of Police Department No. 2 of the Stryi District Police Department. Law enforcement officers detained the suspect – a 43-year-old resident of one of the district’s villages, under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They seized an item resembling a Flobert system revolver and ammunition, which were sent for expert examination.

Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, the detainee was notified of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 296 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years. The pre-trial investigation continues, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.
