Young Man to be Tried for Brutal Murder in Lviv City Center

Prosecutors have submitted an indictment to the court against an 18-year-old man accused of a brutal murder.

Investigations have established that in mid-January this year, in the central part of the city, the accused brutally murdered a solitary 76-year-old woman. On the evening of that day, the young man, in a state of intoxication, climbed over the fence into the courtyard of the house where the victim lived. He then broke into the first apartment he found, with the door left unlocked.

The owner was at home at the time. Upon seeing the stranger, she was frightened and began to scream. Hearing her scream, the attacker grabbed a wooden chair and hurled it at the woman. As a result of the blow, she fell. However, the young man did not stop, he continued to beat the defenseless woman with the chair until it broke apart. After that, he took a meat tenderizer from the kitchen and inflicted at least 19 blows to the woman’s head and body.

Due to the injuries sustained, the victim died on the spot, and the attacker fled. Neighbors found the woman and called the police. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement, the fugitive was found and detained a few hours after the crime was committed. Currently, he is in custody.

The accused’s actions are qualified under paragraph 4 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – deliberate murder committed with particular cruelty. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
