In Lviv, three men have been sentenced to prison for cannabis distribution.
With the public prosecution by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a verdict was passed on three men previously convicted of property crimes. They have been found guilty of the illegal acquisition, storage for the purpose of distribution, and distribution of narcotic substances in places of imprisonment. One of them also received a sentence for illegal possession of narcotic substances without the purpose of distribution.
The court sentenced them to: 8 years and 4 months with confiscation of property, 7 years and 3 months with confiscation of property, and 6 years and 3 months with confiscation of property, respectively. Prosecutors proved that in August 2020, two prisoners in the “Lviv Penitentiary Institution No. 19” organized the distribution of cannabis in the institution by involving an acquaintance from the outside. This acquaintance purchased the drug and delivered it to the specified institution.
The illegal activity was stopped by law enforcement officers after the ‘delivery’ of the prohibited substance to the prison territory. In addition, during searches in one convict’s cell, methadone was also found and confiscated. The verdict becomes legally binding after the expiration of the appeal period.
