Car Smuggling Disguised as Aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have sent an indictment to court regarding three members of an organized group. They are charged with smuggling excise goods.

The investigation determined that throughout 2024, a resident of Lviv region facilitated illegal importation of cars from EU countries, using the details of a charitable organization. The head of the charity fund and a local resident were also involved in the \”business\”.

During the smuggling across Ukraine’s customs border, customs officials were presented with documents containing false information, particularly claiming the import of vehicles as humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

However, the accused later sold these cars to third parties or used them for their own needs. It has been documented that seven cars were imported this way. Their approximate value is 2.6 million UAH.

Additionally, during searches, one vehicle was discovered, seized, and arrested. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by detectives from the territorial office of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Lviv region, with operational support from the Ukrainian Border Service and the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until proven guilty according to the law and established by a court’s ruling.
