Following public prosecution by prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, three members of the organized group were found guilty. They were convicted of the intentional murder of three people, attempted intentional murder of four people, intentional damage to property, as well as the acquisition, storage, transfer of firearms, ammunition, explosive devices without a permit provided for by law (pars. 1, 5, 6, 11, 12, part 2, Art. 115, part 2, Art. 15, paras. 1, 5, 6, 11, 12, Part 2, Article 115, Part 2, Article 194, Part 1, Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The organizer was sentenced to life imprisonment. The executors were sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved that in 2016, the defendant planned the murder of a Lviv businessman, entrusting it to two men for a monetary reward.
The scheme was to blow up the car in which the ordered man would be traveling, and if necessary, to use firearms.
However, the perpetrators miscalculated and prematurely detonated the anti-tank mines that had been previously placed under the asphalt and blew up the motorcade with the businessman’s bodyguards, not the businessman himself. They then shot the vehicle.
As a result, three people sustained gunshot wounds and died on the spot, while one man managed to survive.
The businessman himself was riding behind in another car at the time, which remained unharmed and managed to flee the scene.
The defendants will be detained until the verdict enters into force.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the investigators of the Main National Police in Lviv region with the operational support of the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region of the State Secret Service of the National Police of Ukraine and the DCO of the Main National Police in Lviv region.
